The pump operates in full sunlight, and pumps 40 gallons per hour without adding a cent to your power bill! not pumping so much anymore March 9, 2008 A. J. Hollen (Sun Valley, CA) 85 out of 86 found this review helpful
OOPS the price goes up and the quality goes down! I have had more failures with my later pumps- still think that it is a good idea - I just wish they wouldn't mess with a good product for a larger profit margin!!!!! December, 2009
earlier I had written . . .
I read the negative reviews for this SOLAR pump (some even complain that it only works when it is sunny - - - duh). I have had my first one now for three years and I love it. It couldn't be easier to set up - a couple of screws, stick the panel into ground (it can also be mounted) and put the thingy in the birdbath and VOILA!
It isn't a fountain but it is perfect for a birdbath. I played with all the different heads that send the water up higher - about 8 to 10 inches - and opted to just use it with no head and let it bubble to a height of about 4 inches on sunny days and the birds go nuts for it - sometimes they sit right on top of it . . . bet that feels good on a hot day!
I confess that I am not that diligent about cleaning it out around the filter BUT this little pump is so forgiving that it keeps going anyway. Occasionally it needs to be taken apart if some debris gets in (you can tell when it happens because it makes a funny humming sound) but the maintenance is so minimal that only a birdbrain would find it a chore.
I have had the water wigglers in birdbaths - they're okay but they get funky and rusty - that is why I am buying my second and third solar pump to replace the wigglers in the other baths.
Exactly what I hoped for January 25, 2010 Urie Bay (San Diego) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've just set up a little front garden with fragrant potted plants, a hummingbird feeder and a small table and chairs and I wanted a water feature which would serve both as a bird bath and provide the sound of splashing water, but there's no electricity available and I didn't want to wire something in. I have a 24" wide pot with pretty rocks and water. I set up the fountain as soon as it arrived, in the middle of the night. I'd read the mixed reviews here and was a little nervous, but in the morning I had lovely splashing water. I played around a little with the solar panel placement (it comes with both a stake and a mount for attaching it to a deck, roof, etc.) and my fountain splashes prettily all day. The fountain too comes with a float for deeper ponds or can be set in the bottom of a shallower pond (as I have mine). There are three different fountain heads. I used the one with the most sprays and it sprays about eight inches up all day long, as long as it's sunny. Even when the sun goes behind a cloud, the fountain gets lower but doesn't stop spraying.
I've only had it for three days, but so far it's absolutely perfect. All of my neighbors have commented on my lovely fountain and the wonderful sound of splashing water.
Works great! May 19, 2010 John Kuzma (Iowa City, IA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this pump for a little water feature for a garden that was away fom any electrical source, and it works very well. The water stream is as high as the manufacturer promised (actually a little higher), it was extremely easy to set up and I am satisfied with it so far.
A second panel, connected in series to the pump would be even better. As the sun moves overhead, I have adjusted the location of the panel to catch the light more directly (today is only the second day I have had it, so I am still trying to work out the best way to operate it).
So far, the birds and kids love it.

Exactly what I wanted! May 23, 2010 J. Bradshaw 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this solar pump to put in a birdbath, and am very happy with it. I knew when I ordered it, that it would not be pumping all the time when the sun wasn't out or directly hitting the solar panel. I've placed the panel where it would get most of the afternoon sun. Some of the birds like the fountain and others don't. So when it's pumping only the birds that like it use it, and when it's off the other birds come. It's pleasing to watch and listen to when you're sitting outside. I would recommend this to those who don't care if it's not running all the time.
solar-powered water pump April 10, 2010 J. Griffith This replacement pump is so fantastic! With the detachable solar panel, I never run out of sun for the fountain! Right now, the wind is blowing, so the water gets shot over the bowl. I have refilled the bowl once already today, so take caution to not let your bowl run dry.
Another good feature of this product is it's adaptability. I have a racoon problem, where they come up to the fountain at night, remove the solar panel, and wash their food out in the deeper resevoir. This is what broke the first unit. With the current item, I am able to load it down with rocks, so the racoons can't move it where ever they want to.Smart Solar SunJet 150 Solar-Powered Water Pump
