5 out of 5 stars Love This Ceramic Compost Pail   January 24, 2010

I have been using a plastic pail to store compost scraps until I was ready to take them outside for years, and it was pretty nasty looking, and a pain to clean. It just so happens that the new compost pail is easily lined with a 1 gallon food storage bag, which I use for something else, and then reuse to line the ceramic compost pot. What could be easier. When full, you just take the bag to the compost bin, empty it, and then discard the bag in the trash. The Ceramic Pail stays very clean this way. It also looks really great on my counter. Couldn't be happier. Amazon rocks.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect   January 28, 2010

This keeps odors at bay while it keeps scraps discreetly contained on my kitchen counter. It wipes clean with a little Windex and little effort. It goes well with my kitchen since it is neutral in design and color. It is a bit hefty when full, but I carry it with one hand on the bottom. The filter works well and helps keep the stink away from the sink.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful ecological packaging   February 4, 2010
Frank Burton (San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA)
I'm just starting to use this compost pail, so have no comments yet on its functioning. However I want to comment on the packaging: It was totally recyclable and biodegradable corrugated cardboard--no Styrofoam to take up space forever in a landfill. Hurray to you Amazon for your "Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging."

Having used plastic compost pails for several years, I ordered this particular kitchen compost pail because it isn't plastic. If anyone wants to keep using plastic as "business as usual," they should Google "Pacific Ocean Plastic Gyer" (not sure of the spelling) to see what a godawful mess our use of plastic is creating in the middle of the Pacific.

5 out of 5 stars No Odors....Attractive & Compact   February 18, 2010
AuburnTygr (Brent, AL USA)
I had been using a malamine bowl to throw scraps into before taking to the composter. The trouble with the bowl was the odors if I forgot to take it outside. I wanted something that wouldn't emit odors if left for more than 1 day. The Pinzon 1-Gallon Compost Pail is perfect. I placed potato peels and several egg shells into the composter and left for 3 days. After three days there were no noticible odors in my kitchen.

It's attractive enough to leave on a counter and small enough to place under the kitchen sink. The carbon filters are easy to rinse clean and I place the pail in the dishwasher to sanitize as well as clean. Overall I'm very pleased with this compost pail.

5 out of 5 stars Experiment in Being Green   March 26, 2010
M. Thomas (Oviedo, FL, US)
My wife had wanted to compost for some time. This caught my eye, and is an attractive and functional kitchen tool. It remains to be seen if composting in Florida will be successful due to weather issues. If we elect not to compost long-term, this ceramic pail is excellent quality and will serve other purposes well.
