5 out of 5 stars best of both worlds   July 17, 2009

We all know we need to move to CFLs for energy efficiency - for our own finances and the environment. But for those of us with "can lights", the visible part of the bulb has to look right! This product solves those problems - and if it lives up to its 6-year-life prediction, it will more than pay for itself.

Walmart and Target, etc., have these in stock, but sometimes only one or two! I bought a case so I would always have them around and not be tempted to backslide to incandescent!!

4 out of 5 stars Burns bright; slow to warm up   June 4, 2008

I've purchased these lights from a local retail outlet and replaced my regular outdoor incadescent floodlights with them. They do burn very brightly-just as brightly as the incadescent bulbs-but take a very long time to warm up, especially in the winter (NJ). I would never let this discourage purchasing and using these bulbs, but if you think indoor bulbs take a while, prepare yourself!

3 out of 5 stars good bulb, vile packaging   January 23, 2010

We have a large training room with 90W floods. Tried a number of fluorescent replacements and, as expected, none were are as good as incandescent. Slow to start and weird color. However, the GE 26 W Energy Smart floods are as good as any and better than most. Since nine bulbs burn most of the time here, the energy savings are large, and well worth it. Bulbs came promptly and in good shape. However, they were individually ensconced in heavy plastic shells and then further wrapped in a huge amount of plastic bubble. For people trying to be more environmentally responsible, this waste is very dismaying, which is why my rating is three rather than four stars.

3 out of 5 stars Light bulbs brighten your day   March 23, 2010

I ordered the wrong size bulb base so I had to send them back - they were very easy with the return but a little steep with the re-stocking and shipping charges - so order with them for sure just make sure you order right!

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it   August 18, 2009

I know energy saving i.e. "green" is all the rage but this product really sucks. I've got some of the regular CFL replacements in a couple of table lamps and they take a little getting used to but they're okay. GE's attempt at comverting a flood lamp falls dismally short. Being a somewhat energy concious consumer I decided to try one in a hallway after the standard bulb burned out so I forked out almost eight bucks for a "60W equivalent". The bulb I was replacing was 65W incandescent. My personal assessment is that this is more like "10W equivalent" and it casts a ghoulish white light. I can't imagine where I could use this. I just now replaced it with an incandescent and I'm back to happy. Maybe their "120W equivalent" bulb would shine more light but there's no way I could stand the too-white light. They make their standard flourescents in different shades i.e. warmth so why not these??
