Indispensible reference book July 8, 2005 Karen Henrickson (Setauket, NY USA) 62 out of 62 found this review helpful
This remarkably well-researched, comprehensive work includes chapters on food, building materials, socially responsible investments, clothing, bedding, pets, babies/children, personal care products, recycling, transportation, eco-travel, and more. At the end of each chapter is an extensive list of sources for the green products mentioned and for further information. Much of the appeal of this highly informative book lies in its user-friendly practicality and its reassuring, encouraging advice. Engaging, eye-opening reading that'll really get you psyched to clean up your act.
A great reference for everyday life January 8, 2007 AvidReader 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I have purchased this book twice now - once for myself, once as a gift - and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Most of the ideas are easy to implement and are accompanied by clear explanations of the ecologic and economic values of "being green." The sections are easy to read and generally interesting, and the resources provided within the text and at the end are quite useful. When you implement the suggestions in this book, you will help the Earth and save money, making it a great value in more ways than one. Highly recommended for "greenies" and "non-greenies" alike. This book was written by the folks at "E the Environmental Magazine" (also terrific, and chock full of great ideas for everyday living).
Fantastic Reference Book August 27, 2006 liz (CT, Usa) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This book's finest and most invaluable quality is that not only does it explain the many hazards modern living has bestowed but it also gives you a way out. At the end of every chapter are website addresses, names and contact information for companies that fill the need for whatever it is you're used to living with (household cleaners, make-up, baby products, energy) but minus the unwanted chemicals or environmental side effects. It provides a solution, not just the problem.
A MUST-HAVE for the environmental-minded July 8, 2006 H. Lin (Los Angeles, CA United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this book after seeing a review in Newsweek. It's the best $11 dollars I've ever spent on a book! Despite the wealth of information already prevalent on the internet, I have not been able to stop turning to it as a reference guide since. All the topics are well-researched, up-to-date, and are outlined in a simple, easy-to-read format. I love how practical the book is... at the end of every chapter are websites and other "green" resources relating to the chapter topic as practical ways of starting changes in our ways of living. If you have watched Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" and are aching to begin a healthier way of living, then do your self and your family a favor and read this book!
Great starter guide to green April 6, 2007 Raymond W. Smith (Kansas City, MO) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book is a great resource of information for living a healthier, greener life. I would recommend this book to anyone just to have around as a reference for their home. My favorite thing about this book would be the reference it lists for starting a broader search on the eco-friendly topics that interest you the most.
